“Red Cliff” – And the John Woo Interview

I sat down with Director John Woo to interview him about his latest film “Red Cliff”. I was surprised at how humble and down to earth he was considering that he is the King of action movies. Speaking with a little broken English, he told me, “My English is not very good,” but he handled every question immaculately. During the interview it was easy to pick up on his love for movies and his passion for directing. His face would light up every time he spoke about the movie scenes of battling armies and the armadas of ships at sea. I was amazed to find out that John Woo does not base his decision-making on the bottom line (MONEY) but instead on, “I want to make a movie…Red Cliff”. At the end of the interview I asked if he was a “Christian”, unsure of what his answer would be, and John Woo said, “My boss is God”.

“Red Cliff” is an epic Chinese film with English subtitles. The film is based on a true story of three kingdoms. The combination of the first-rate story, giant armies and the beautiful cinematography make this a recipe for one great movie. The acting was good, and, even though I could not understand what they were saying, I was still able to feel their desperation.

This movie is rated R for sequences of epic warfare. This prodigious film will leave you fully satisfied.

Amelia Earhart – First Woman To Fly Across The Atlantic

The film “Amelia” is the true story of Amelia Earhart the first woman to fly solo across the Atlantic Ocean. The story takes you throw all of her struggles as a woman pilot trying to overcome insurmountable odds. It is a slower pace movie you can really enjoy.

This film is rated PG for some sensuality and language. It’s a great movie for true story lovers.

Pandorum Movie

I am not usually a fan of horror films, but I really enjoyed “Pandorum”. The story was solid, the scenes were scary, and the characters were SMART-er than the usual prey hunted in horror flicks! It’s so wonderful to see a scary film with all these qualities. I liked the end of the film, it left me with an “upper” feeling. Ben Foster (as Bower) can pull off desperate and intense, even though I still remember him as a funny kid on the Disney Channel show “Flash Forward”. He has truly become an actor that can make a scene impassioned.

If you want to see a scary movie that has a good story then “Pandorum” is for you. This film is rated R for strong horror violence and language.

It’s About Time, ‘Love Happens’

It’s not very often that I am surprised by how good a movie is. That’s why I was shocked with ‘Love Happens’. I went in thinking it was going to be a typical romantic film but it was more than that. It had a story. “Finally,” I thought, “A film that wasn’t just about the ‘hook up’ but about the heart.” This story felt real. Your heart will go out to the main characters. Aaron Eckhart (Burke) was so good that I forgot I was watching an actor. And you will definitely fall in love with Jennifer Aniston (Eloise) all over again.

This film had the perfect mixture of tragedy and comedy. It made you laugh in all the right spots so that there was never a time when you were too overwhelmed with what was going on in the film. I would suggest bringing some tissues for those of you who tend to cry because this movie is a tear-jerker. It’s rated PG-13 for some language including sexual references. This is a clean and refreshing film that will make even the hardest of hearts soften.

Have you seen it? Outlander

Have you seen the 2008 film ‘Outlander’? It was a great film that you may have missed. This was a big film that had a small distribution in select movie theaters. It was an epic film with a solid story and thrilling action. James Caviezel (Kainan) plays a warrior from a distant planet who crashes on earth in the time of the Vikings. With the aid of the Vikings he battles with an alien dragon for survival.

I was surfing the Internet looking for any up coming, cool new films when I ran into this film ‘Outlander’. I remembered seeing the trailors for this film over a year ago and I was curious about what it was. I wanted to know what people thought of the film so I asked some people I knew, but no one had heard of it. So, I found the film on DVD and watched it with my family. To be honest I didn’t expect much from the film. I figured it would be a B-class movie because it went right to DVD. But I was suprised at how good this film actually was. I couldn’t believe a film like this went straight to DVD. After watching it, I realized there are some really good films that may not have made it to the theaters.

This fim is rated R for violence. If you ever want to see a good film that few people know about, watch this one.

‘Great American’ Action movie

‘Great American’ Action movie

‘G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra’, is an extremely fun movie for everyone to see.  The extraordinary story and action takes you on a thrilling ride of adventure. Well timed comedy played a role in the character development.  Marlon Wayans (Ripcord), brought comic relief with Channing Tatum (Duke), in the middle of life and death situations. Young Snake Eyes (Leo Howard), was a great addition to this film. He amazed the audience with how young someone could be and fight so well.

The first 30 minutes really gripped me. It introduced me to the advanced weapons, cool technology and the heroes that use it. One of the first scenes shows a soldier battling with every thing he has even though he is out gunned to complete his mission no matter what it takes. I do have to say that some parts of the film had me scratching my head; for instance, a secret underwater base is crushed by giant chunks of ice that are sinking from the ocean surface. This film is rated PG-13 for strong violence. To all the thrill seeking, action loving, shoot’em up fans this will fix all your action needs.

A Thrilling Getaway

“A Perfect Getaway” is a well plotted scary movie with a side order of romance.  The suspense will keep you guessing as you are introduced to each character. Cliff (Steve Zahn), and Nick (Timothy Olyphant) become good buddies when things suddenly start to become more and more leery. The leading ladies Cydney (Milla Jovovich), and Gina (Kiele Sanchez) really connect when they begin to share each others past, making their lives even more interesting.

I loved the suspense, of the “who’s done it” scenario, and of course, the beautiful Hawaiian islands.  Those combined elements set the mood for a fun movie date[?].  I must admit, there was a scene that made me jump as well as most of the audience and I laughed in disbelief at my reaction. Rated R for graphic violence, nudity, and some drug use.  Suspense enthusiast will enjoy this movie.

Aliens in the Theater

Aliens In The Attic is a very funny family movie that will have you laughing along with your kids. The over-the-top scenario was well played by the entire cast, from the oldest to youngest.  Ricky Dillman (Robert Hoffman) did a brilliant acting job when he was put under mind control by the aliens trying to take over the earth. Ricky is the character you just love to hate.

This film is truly fun for kids.  It’s rated PG for violence and language.  I would recommend this film for children 7 years old and up.

Julie & Julia and Me

‘Julie & Julia’ is a movie for those who love to cook and those who remember the art of Julia Child’s French cuisine. I have to be honest, because of traffic I missed the first fifteen minutes of the movie. From when I started to watch it, it took me a few minutes to catch up on what I missed. From where I picked up on the film, Julia Child, (Meryl Streep), and Julie Powell, (Amy Adams) were going through the same age old question, “What should I do with my life?” In their own funny way they find what is it they love in life, cooking. They come across many obstacles in creating these delicious recipes.

One of my favorite parts of the film is when Julie is laying on the floor and having a meltdown because everything that could go wrong did. It was at this low point when her husband walks in and tells her she has a phone call. I have to say that even as a guy who doesn’t cook much, I found myself wanting to create a dish of my own. This movie is rated PG-13 for brief strong language and sensuality. It is a good chick flick that will have you laughing and inspire the chef inside.

Harry Potter: A Magical Movie

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is about Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe), stepping into his destiny. In this film he is becoming the man that Dumbledore (Michael Gambon)and others hoped he would be. Daniel Radicliffe is now creating a stronger more courageous Harry Potter. All of the actors have grown from the prior films. The chemistry between the characters is brilliant. The love triangles are over the top and humors making them very enjoyable to watch. Ron Weasly (Rupert Grint) really adds a lot of personality to this film. He is the always funny comic relief and in this film he shines brighter than in the previous films.

The scene I really enjoyed was when Harry Potter got some ‘help’ from the luck potion. His acting is incridably masterful to watch. He is funny and entertaining while able to be serious when the time comes. The film is rated PG-13 for violence and is a fun film for teenagers and adults.  Movie Review by Sunny Gazowsky –
